Lyases (EC 4.x.x.x) are a class of enzymes that catalyze the breaking of chemical bonds through methods other than hydrolysis and oxidation, often forming a new double bond or a new ring structure. Differ from other enzymes, most reactions catalyzed by lyases only require one substrate for the forward reaction, and two for the reverse reaction. The reaction is: A-B → A + B.
